800th Anniversary of the Salisbury Cathedral
Sister Cities of Salisbury/Wicomico County celebrated the 800th Anniversary of the Salisbury Cathedral in the UK on May 25 – 27, 2022. Salisbury UK is one of Salisbury, MD’s sister cities.

Dr. Ray Thompson kicked off the Celebration with a lecture on A Tale of Two Salisbury’s at MAC. A Salisbury Cathedral video presentation, “Perfect Pitch, the Choristers of Salisbury Cathedral” followed his talk.
That evening the American Guild of Organists (AGO), Salisbury Chapter, sponsored a High Tea at St. Peter’s. A Virtual Organ Recital by David Halls followed the tea. David Halls is the Director of Music for Salisbury Cathedral. Michael Stefanik, Dean AGO, Salisbury Chapter, opened this part of the program by playing “Tuba Tune.” Initially David Halls was going to be in Salisbury, MD and have an In-person Organ Recital. Those plans were changed because of COVID.

May 26 was Ascension Day. For that service at St. Peter’s David Halls wrote “Eternal Monarch.” The Community Choir sang the world premiere of the anthem at the Ascension Day Service.

The next evening the Celebration continued with performances from the Salisbury Children’s Choir and the Community Choir. City Council President, Jack Heath read a Proclamation from the City of Salisbury. Senator Mary Beth Carozza read a Resolution from the Maryland State Senate. Sir Barchan presented the Magna Carta to Salisbury University President Chuck Wright who made a brief presentation.

This Celebration was made possible through the donations of 36 community organizations and members. A reception for the donors was held at Salisbury University Alumni House on May 24.
